I am the biggest fan of Bakerella! This is my first attempt at making her cake pops. These were for a spring baby shower, and I was quite happy with the results!
What are cake pops some of you might ask?
Cake pops are made from crumbled cake and frosting mixed into a dough that you shape on a stick and cover in melted chocolate. You can make cake pops from any flavor of cake and frosting recipe you like. You can even make them from crumbled cookies. The options are endless! The original recipe can be found on Bakerella’s amazing blog. Here’s a good place to start.
For display at the party, I set out these “flower pots” so that guests could pick flowers, eat and enjoy!
These cake pops are made with a simple box-mix chocolate cake and a tub of icing from the grocery store. They were dipped in white chocolate that I tinted with gel coloring. They tasted scrumptious!
I wanted to make a variety of shapes, so I chose these cookie cutters and used bright spring colors. Once I made the “dough” coated the cutters with cooking spray and pressed the dough in to form the shapes.
To make the cake pops look even more like flowers, I wanted green stems and leaves. The leaves were cut from green-colored fondant with some floral wire attached to the bottoms. I also painted the lolipop sticks and floral wire with green food coloring and let them dry.
I couldn’t be more happy with the result! These cake pops were cute on their own and looked even better assembled into bouquets. These are a far cry from the impecable artistry of Bakerella’s creations, but I consider them a good start in learning to make something new. I’m baking up more for the 4th of July this summer, so check back for more!
